Ham and Julie

Last week I had the opportunity to photograph Julie and her 20-year-old cat, Ham. Ham looked pretty darn good for a golden-aged cat, and it's no doubt due to Julie's love for him.



I have to admit, this was a difficult shoot. When you are an old man and also when you are a cat, all you want to do is chill in the sun and sleep, which made things a little tricky for me. But Julie and Ham have been together since Ham was only eight weeks old, and they've lived all over the country together. I knew I had to relax on getting shots I wanted to get and instead focus on capturing the connection between these two best friends. I hope I've done that here. Ham was happy to see me--he loved being petted and loved on. He's really a lucky cat to have spent his entire life with somebody who so clearly adores him (I have a hunch the feeling is mutual).
