Surrey With the Fringe on Top

Last weekend Hobby Horse Farm (in Firestone CO, about 20 miles from here) held its second CHJA show of the summer. I accompanied Plane View Farm's riders to photograph their classes, and quickly realized that the other half of my photography ventures is so very much more adept at the action shots than I am, so most of what I got ended up being snippets here and there of the behind-the-scenes action you see at horse shows. I'm still working on all the files, but here's what I have so far:

What Do You MEAN?

Most dads don't put olives up the snoot?

20090621002

Fisheye Lens + Olive + My Dad (and, I think, ONLY my dad) = A Very Happy Father's Day.

We ate salmon and Greek salads, rode around on the scooter, played one round of Shut the Box, ate cherry cobbler, washed the trucks, rode around on the scooter, moved mattresses, rode around on the scooter and did some people-watching from the front porch.

Then I watered the street and made my sister play her guitar. :)

At the end of the day, the important thing at a barn party is that the dog gets his chicken.

Lots of people were willing to help.

It was very nice of Natalie and Ted to invite me back out to their farm to meet a bunch of their friends, even if some of them shot me.

Which, in turn, made him very sleepy.

Diego is the cutest ranch hand I've ever met in my entire life, and I'm not above bribing him to do cute things, like blow out a candle for a dollar.

More chicken, plz:

Zoe, Cub

Saturday's Z was a Labrador; this one's a cub with walrus cheeks for storing acorns and drool.

Zoey Does Chautauqua

20090613027.1

Zoey's mom and dad won the raffle from last month's RMLR event, so team Onion Basket took the opportunity to photograph this pretty nine-year-old Lab at one of Boulder's most well-known scenic spots--Chautauqua Park.

20090613001

I considered putting Zoey in my pocket and bringing her home with me, but I don't think her mom and dad would have let her go.

20090613008.1

I am going to digress now:

I moved here about three months ago. If you'd asked me a year ago if I'd come back to the Boulder area (I grew up here), I would have said mmmm-no-thanks-ok-bye! But ONCE AGAIN I've been backhanded with the lesson never say never, and I'm happy to report that there's really no place else I'd rather be at the moment.

You didn't know my blog was going to get mushy, did you? I think it was a combo of today's shoot (you should have seen how much Sean and Lynn love this dog), being loved on by Colorado Sunshine, and photographing critters with the wicked-awesome talented other half of Onion Basket (unofficial but real collaboration). So. There you have it.

Now, back to Ms Zoey.

Zoey's walks are usually limited to her neighborhood because of her gettin'-old knees. I think she forgot about those knees today while she was sniffing all the new pretty flowers up at the park. :)
